By the Numbers: A History of Vaccine Effectiveness

If you’ve never met someone who’s had polio or tetanus, it’s thanks to the protective power of vaccines. Worldwide, vaccines have eradicated smallpox. In the U.S., vaccines have eliminated polio, and other once-common illnesses, such as mumps and diphtheria, are now very rare. A quick look at before and after numbers of cases in the U.S. clearly shows the overall benefits of vaccines.
